Good Work Issue #13
Staff stresses, ESG's boardroom opportunity, Marshall Plan for Moms and more.
Hello,
A very warm welcome to the thirteenth issue of Good Work.
Research and surveys funded by corporations should always be taken with several pinches of salt. There’s often a transactional aspect to them, the backer typically wants a specific result and those carrying out the survey are happy to try and oblige.
But there are two pieces of research that we are focussing on in this edition that cast a powerful spotlight on how our world of work is changing (and provides evidence to help you make your own changes), here’s just two highlights:
One that surveyed full time staff in the USA, shows how the cost of living crisis is beginning to bite, with households with an income of $100,000 or more over the past year, 17% have been unable to cover monthly living expenses, and 25% have lived pay-check to pay-check.
Another piece of research, this time in the UK, finds that while 80% of UK HR directors consider ESG to be a top priority but only 70% stating that it is actually part of the company’s HR strategy, which indicates further scope for inclusion within the HR strategy.
They are both interesting and valuable pieces of work, so check them out.
I’m on holiday at the start of June, so there’ll be a little break before the next issue, which will be published June 23rd.
Happy reading and thanks for the support.
