Good Work Issue #3
HR home truths, Jessica Alba, staff retention in 2022 and Frankie the dinosaur.
Hello,
A warm welcome to the third issue of Good Work.
I remember this time last year writing a newsletter that wished everyone a happy, healthy, and more normal 2021. Well, 12 months on, the year might change but the wish remains the same! Whilst the festive period may not exactly be the one we hoped for a few weeks ago (thanks Omicron), let’s all hope for a good one, however and wherever you celebrate it.
One of the ongoing changes that the pandemic has brought is a serious consideration of our jobs – what we do, where we do it and most importantly, why we do it.
So, with this in mind, we are delighted to bring you this week our first expert post, from HR insider, Kevin Farrel, Vexed in the City, in which he honestly assesses what he sees as the failings in modern HR and outlines why as a result he is making some major changes.
“I’ve been appalled at what some companies or leaders ‘get away with’ under the auspices of being commercial. Being commercial does not mean screwing your people into the ground or over, it’s about finding a sustainable way every stakeholder can get what they need…”
Kevin will be writing regularly for us in 2022, and we are excited to follow his journey. If you’d like to contribute to the Digest, please let me know, we are actively seeking new voices.
And finally, a big thank you for the support in our first few weeks, we’ve had a great response and it’s been fantastic to already start having conversations with companies who are interested in working with us.
Good Work will be back in January and wishing you and yours a happy Christmas.
