Good Work Issue #5
Bridging the office v WFH divide, democratising DAFs, inside 3M's values and more
Hello,
A warm welcome to the fifth issue of Good Work.
It was US President Harry S Truman who popularised the phrase “the buck stops here”, with a sign with this written upon it kept prominently on his desk in the Oval Office. It’s a belief that leaders have to take responsibility for what happens on their watch, whether they have been directly involved or not. And its hard not to contrast Truman’s view, with that of the some of our more recent leaders.
But for those of us working in making positive change in our workplaces, the idea of ownership, whatever your place in the hierarchy is absolutely key in delivering real results. For people to really engage with projects or causes, they need to see that their management are equally positive and will genuinely support their actions.
The time, resources or finances that are promised must be delivered, and cannot slowly drop down the list of priorities, or worse, be cancelled when other apparent priorities emerge.
The best leaders really commit, and every day we are speaking and writing about how companies can better connect their staff with the good causes and receive huge benefits in return. If you have some examples, we’d love to feature them.
Happy reading,
